Riflescopes –
Get the advantage!
Riflescopes can make high-quality optical performance
possible. First used in very expensive binoculars and cameras, the
aspherical lens system in modern riflescopes provides sharper images
across the entire field of view. A riflescope can put into your rifle
the advantage of this extraordinary optical configuration.
Facilities are being added to modern riflescopes to give
the user superior comfort and usability even while you wear eye-
glasses. They also have long eye relief, and features fully multi-coated
lenses for better light transmission; accurate 1/4 MOA fingertip
adjustments; and waterproof, shockproof and fog proof construction.
It's true that not all riflescopes are equally suited
for all rifles. There are models that are hammer-less, lever-action
rifle with a detachable box magazine available in both carbine (19-inch
barrel) and rifle (22-inch barrel) options. Chambered in .243, .284,
.308 and .358., such models had been manufactured from 1955 to 1973. In
.308 calibre, as you have, it is an ideal deer/caribou/moose rifle for
distances up to 300 yards. The type of riflescope that you select may
well depend upon the animals, habitat and distances you're shooting at.
If you expect shots in excess of 100 yards, you may want to consider a
variable scope of the 2X to 7X or 3X to 9X family. If most of our shots
are inside of 100 yards, a fixed-power in 4X may be your best choice.
One of the considerations to be aware of
when selecting riflescopes for a gun is the objective lens diameter of
the scope. The objective lens is the lens furthest from your eye on
riflescopes and its size is a number expressed in millimeters. Typical
objective lens range from 36 to 50 millimeters and can influence the
mounts required to ensure you have sufficient clearance above the
barrel. These days, there are rings and mounts available that will allow
you to mount just about any riflescope on most rifles, but talk to your
local gunsmith about his recommendations before deciding on a specific
scope.
