Laser range finders:
Precision tools for measuring distance
If you're a serious hunter, you might want
to look at laser range finders. Laser range finders will accurately
measure the distance to your target to within 1 yard or meter,
increasing the possibility of an accurate shot the first time. These
units are high-tech instruments that transmit pulses of eye-safe
infrared light that bounce off the target and return to a receiver. A
high-speed clock and processor calculate the distance instantly, even in
rain or snow, or if there are objects like brush or bushes in the
foreground.
Settable to measure in either yards or
meters, laser range finders have a reticle that you look into to aim the
device. In the reticle are crosshairs to assist in positioning the unit
correctly. When the target is in the center of the crosshairs, just a
press of a button gives you the range in a heads-up type display. Some
models are capable of measuring speed as well as distance. Others have a
compass integrated into the design.
Laser range finders can be monocular or
binocular, depending on your preference. Most have LED-type displays.
Some have what's called a scan mode where you can successively update
the range of a moving target. Scan mode also allows you to continuously
determine the range of different objects as you move the focus from one
to another.
Tough and waterproof, laser range finders
are compact and lightweight. The optics are coated to improve light
transmission and reduce glare, giving you a crisp, clear image in the
crosshairs. With diopter adjustment on the eyepiece, many models allow
you to adjust for your individual eyesight.
Laser range finders are high-tech precision instruments that will
improve your shooting accuracy at all distances and in all weather
conditions. To learn more about these devices, click on one of the links
