refracting telescope
A refracting telescope
is the cheapest way of getting close to the stars!
If you’re fond of astronomy and your fondest
wish is to observe planets and galaxies from up close, the ideal thing
to do would be to buy a rocket. However, if your budget does not run
into billions of dollars, we have a cheaper option for you- a telescope.
You can choose from among a reflecting telescope and a refracting
telescope, each of which has its own set of positives. The refracting
telescope was first developed by Hans Lippershey in 1608 and was
modified later on by Galileo Galilee.
A refracting telescope is really simple in
its working. There are three main parts in a refracting telescope- a
glass tube, a glass combination lens at the front, called the objective
lens and the eyepiece. The combination lens consists of a convex and a
concave lens. Convex lenses are curved outward and make things look
bigger, but blurred while concave lenses curve inward and make objects
look smaller and sharper. A refracting telescope combines the best
features of both lenses and hence the image as seen in the eyepiece is
larger and clearer!
Refractor telescopes work great for lunar
and planetary observation and guided astrophotography. They are more
suitable for people who are starting out or amateurs who intend to
pursue astronomy. Two types of refractors that are used in refracting
telescopes are achromatic and apochromatic refractors. Some of the best
refractor telescope manufacturers are Meade, Evostar and Celestron.
While buying a refracting telescope, buy one
that can be easily pointed and is mounted firmly. For normal everyday
use, a telescope with magnification strength of 25X to 200X is more than
enough. You can browse through an exhaustive list of refracting
telescope manufacturers online and pick the one that you like. And lose
yourself among the stars.
