all - new handgun scopes minimize the amount of recoil to protect you from
a sore arm
Over the years, handgun scopes have changed a lot to incorporate new
features and are taking into consideration several additional factors to
make the use of a handgun easier than ever before. The basic principle
that handgun scopes operate upon, though, remains the same. The
objective lens captures an image and sends an upside-down version of it
to another set of lenses called the erector lenses, which straighten the
image. This image is received by another lens known as the ocular lens,
which magnifies it. This magnified image is what you see with your eye.
As mentioned before, handgun scopes have, in recent times, been improved
greatly. One factor that had been overlooked in handgun scope making was
the incredible amount of recoil experienced in some of the newer handgun
models-almost equal to that of big rifles. This was because handguns are
held at arm’s length while being discharged and thus eye relief was not
considered to be of too much importance. Modern handgun scopes, though,
provide greater, much needed eye-relief to the user. The eye relief can
be adjusted by rotating the eyepiece clockwise to increase relief and
counterclockwise to decrease it.
Another innovation in the handgun scopes is the variable power lens, of
the type manufactured by Weaver optics, that allow you to choose from a
range of magnifications to suit your needs. Most scope models are also
waterproof, shockproof and fog proof and have specially coated lenses
for quick target acquisition and crystal-clear visuals. Apart from
Weaver, some of the other big names in the handgun scopes market that
you might want to look at are Bushnell, Simmons and Leupold.
