Bogen products: Quality tripods for bird watching
Tripods from Bogen Imaging will enhance your bird watching experience.
Just mount your camera, binoculars or spotting scope on one of these
quality Bogen products and your bird watching experience will be greatly
enhanced. When choosing a tripod for bird watching, look for the
following features.
Bogen tripods are usually composed of two parts: the legs and a
detachable head. Tripod legs are usually tubular and made of lightweight
materials like aluminum and have two or more telescoping sections to
allow for height adjustment. Telescoping sections also ensure that the
tripod will be compact and easy to carry. To adjust the sections,
tripods use either a flip-lock or threaded twist lock. Flip-lock levers
are preferred because they are quick to set up and easy to use -- even
while wearing gloves.
The most common tripod heads are the 3-way panhead, ball and socket and
the fluid. Although originally designed for photographic use, Bogen
tripods are also adaptable for spotting scopes or binoculars. For the
heavier spotting scope, the fluid head is preferred. Fluid heads have an
adjustable control arm that allows for multi-directional movement of the
scope -- side-to-side or up and down. Look also for a quick release
feature on the head, so you can quickly remove the scope or binoculars
and replace with a camera.
The height of your Bogen tripod is also important. Be sure it is high
enough to allow for comfortable viewing positions over long periods of
time. You should be able to stand erect and not have to hunch over to
look through your spotting scope eyepiece or binoculars.
Accessories for your Bogen tripod should include a carrying case to
protect the mechanisms. You should also consider special adapters or
spikes for the ends that allow for stability in snow or irregular
terrain. An apron provides a place to put scope or camera accessories
and attachments.
Tripods from Bogen are professional quality, durable and lightweight.
With a variety of interchangeable heads and feet, the bird watcher will
have a versatile platform for camera, binoculars or spotting scope.
